Jummah is one of the special days for Muslims, and it has many virtues of Friday that we can benefit from. It is one of the special days from the perspective of Islam. Hence, we must take advantage of it by doing the prescribed acts. Some are obligatory, such as the Jummah prayer for men. We should also perform the sunnah and optional acts when possible. That will help us to worship Allah in the best way and get close to Allah.
The Prophet (PBUH) narrated that Friday is for Muslims, Saturday for Jews, and Sunday for Christians. He emphasized that on Day of Resurrection, people would be in this order. Hence, Muslims would be the first. Additionally, he stated the importance of Jummah by informing us that Allah created Adam (AS) on this day.
Muhammad (PBUH) said that the angel would blow the trumpet, signaling the end of this world as we know it, on a Friday. He also noted that Friday is the best day on which the sun rises. Moreover, he told us to send salutations to him on this day. Besides this, there is one part of Friday during which Allah answers all prayers. We should try to take advantage of that by making dua often.
Things to do on Jummah (Fridays)
Jummah is one of the special days for Muslims, and it has many benefits. Hence, we should aim to extract these benefits from this day by doing all the obligatory and supererogatory acts.
In a Hadith, the Prophet (PBUH) narrated that the best prayer before Allah is to offer the Fajr prayer in congregation. Hence, we should aim to do this as often as possible.
Later during the day, we should get ready for Jummah. Ghusl is one of the highly recommended actions for getting ready for the Jummah prayer. We should do that before the prayer and put on our best clothes and fragrances.
When we hear the Adhan, we should head toward the mosque, leaving all our current activities. For this reason, business and work during Jummah should be avoided. We must listen to the Khutbah before taking part in the prayer.
The Prophet (PBUH) informed us that there is a certain time during Friday, at which Allah answers all prayers. We should try to catch that moment and spend a lot of time making dua on Jummah. The Prophet (PBUH) also told us to send salutations upon him on Fridays.
Last but not least, we should recite Surah al-Kahf. This is one of the highly recommended and popular sunnahs for Jummah. Story of Surah al-Kahf is a beautiful surah with many benefits. We must read it and understand its meanings.
From authentic ahadith, it is taken that Prophet Muhammad ﷺadvised Muslims to recite surah al-Kahf on every Friday to keep safe from the fitnah of dajjal.
The Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺdescribed the virtues of Jummah prayer in the following hadith with these words;
”When the Friday comes, at every door of the Masjid there stands Angels who write down (the names of) those who come First, then who comes next. When the Imam sits down, the records are closed and they come to listen to the reminder , i.e. the Khutbah” Muslim 1984.
